Relaunching benjamincox.com

The Roche Bay List, my last blog, went strong from roughly 2002-2006. Through this blog, I thought about and developed the ideas that made Roche Bay the success it is today; I also got my management team and my long-term business plan. Now that the project is managed by AXI, I am starting another blog to explore the commodities markets from a supply perspective.

In this new blog, I am not going to focus on tollage businesses like refining or smelting, but rather on the business of extraction of resources. We’ll write both short posts in reaction to news articles and longer posts on my thoughts on commodity market structures.

My life these days is split between still running Roche Bay and doing consulting. My consulting company is Benjamin Cox and Associates, and yes there are associates, but we are small. We work mainly for Wall Street in valuing and structuring mineral deals, and we are also working for some small companies on structure issues.

In the long term, I think I want to look for another property that can captivate me like Roche Bay, but that probably will take a few years to find and a market correction so I can afford it. Until then, I am going to explore understanding the market and trying to understand and structure long-term issues.

I feel like I know more about iron ore than I ever wanted to, and now I want to see if what I know transfers to other commodities. To force myself to keep this up–and it is hard to do learning when you have other things to use up your time–I have hired an editor to work with me.

This is going to be a long ride. It’s one that I’ve tried to start two times before, so let’s see how it goes.
